I am a consultant general and colorectal surgeon at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
I specialise in general and colorectal surgery with a specific interest in
laparoscopic bowel surgery, hernia surgery, colonoscopy and the treatment of
anal fissures, fistulae and haemorrhoids. I am a JAG accredited colonoscopist. I
have a particular interest in 'Enhanced Recovery', which aims to optimise
patients’ pre- and post-operative care, in order to improve their recovery
following bowel surgery.
During my training I did a two year fellowship at the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit in Guildford where
I completed an MD research project which focused on the optimisation of patient care before and after bowel surgery.
I also received a nationally-awarded Ethicon laparoscopic colorectal fellowship,
during which I received further specialised training in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) bowel cancer surgery.
I have over forty publications in peer-reviewed journals, many on the subject of Enhanced Recovery and outcomes following bowel cancer surgery.
I have presented at many national and international conferences and been awarded a number of prizes including the David Dunn Medal from the ALSGBI and the John Farndon Award from the ASGBI.
I am an ATLS and CCrISP instructor, training junior doctors in trauma care and management of the critically-ill surgical patient.
I work at the Nuffield Hospital in Haywards Heath and the Spire Gatwick Park Hospital and provide a service to both self-pay patients and those with medical insurance.
