Andrew Day
Mr. Day was appointed as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon to Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust in 2015. He graduated from St. George’s Hospital Medical School in 2000 and completed his post graduate surgical training in the South of England.
During his training he undertook two years of postgraduate research at the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit in Guildford and completed his doctoral thesis on the subject of Enhanced Recovery. He has received a number of national awards for his work and has published extensively on this subject.
Mr. Day has a specialist interest in laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal surgery, as well as performing hernia surgery and colonoscopy.
He also treats anal fissures, fistulae and haemorrhoids. He has a particular interest in ‘Enhanced Recovery’, which aims to optimise the pre-and post-operative care of patients undergoing bowel cancer surgery in order to improve their cancer outcome.
Prior to starting as a consultant, he received specialised training in advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery as one of the national Ethicon Laparoscopic Fellows. He currently sits on the executive council as the Honorary Secretary of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.
When not at work he lives in the Sussex area with his wife, who is a local GP, and their three children. When his children allow the time, he enjoys cycling through the beautiful Sussex countryside.

Andrew Day carried out a double hernia operation on me at Nuffield Haywards Heath. At the initial consultation he carefully explained the procedure and discussed possible risk factors. At all times he was approachable and friendly. The operation went smoothly with a rapid recovery. I am very happy with the care I was given.

I’d like to say how happy I was with the whole event, from visiting Mr Day in 2021 to seeing him today.
The care I was shown from my arrival at Spire Gatwick for the procedure until leaving was excellent.
It was nice not to be rushed to leave and being able to change in the comfort of my own room made such a difference and of course the tea and biscuits helped a lot!

The whole process from pre operation to admissions and to theatre at East Surrey was excellent, overseen by a doctor that I had full trust and faith in. I am now 3 weeks after a high anterior resection and glad to say that am well on the road to a full recovery due to the professionalism of my operation and of Dr Day
